Derrek was a little worried. He didn't really know what do to until he remembered what the Professor had taught him.

"Pikachu, show me what you got." A white flash came out of the pokeball and Pikachu appeared. Ready for any action.

"Shocky, use thundershock!" Pikachu's cheecks began to emit a few lighting bolts. Then his whole body what engulfed by lighting. A quick surge of the lighting went flying toward the wild Pidegy.

the wild pidgey tried to get out of the way but was stricken by the attack this caused massive damage as it was super effective

Derrek wanted to see if the wild Pidgey had any good actions before he caught it. He didn't want to catch a pokemon that wouldn't do good in the future. Derrek decided to wait and let Pidgey attack.
